Fly Arts Group: Interior Design Typography

I found this on Design Work Life this morning and couldn't resist the repost. Witness: these incredible 3D letterforms in miniature, made by Russian design company Fly Arts. Unfortunately, the group's website seems to be down, and so it's been difficult tracking the making of this project, but you can see more photos here. The longer you look the more you find. Mind blowing!

Satellite Alphabet

Have you ever roamed the city (or countryside) camera in hand and letterform on the brain? I have. Sidewalk cracks, the white space between branches, water spills, cloud formations, peeling paint ... I know. Everyone's seen Helvetica and Veer is making kerning sweatshirts and the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog is now on video. Lets face it, type nerds went mainstream. But it's not all bad. Because now graphic designers with hand skillz are opening Etsy shops ... lets hear it for Plastique! Pssst, it's not all type, either.

The Musalman: A Handwritten Newspaper

The Last Calligraphers is a 2008 film by Premjit Ramachandran, a filmmaker/musician/graphic designer living in London. Here we are shown a glimpse into (possibly) the last handwritten newspapers in the world, The Musalman, a Muslim newspaper operating since 1927. Professional calligraphers write out the script, which is then transferred into negatives and printed on an offset press. Read the Scott Carney article in Wired [via i love typography]

Corriette Schoenaerts

Freelance photographer Corriette Schoenaerts (currently with Edson Williams ltd.) has one of those black hole sites that you lose an hour of your day to before realizing you had been doing something else. The projects — including favs like Qualities Needed, Delicious Mouths, and Maps — are captivating, her execution exceptional. Spend the time, it's truly wonderful. [via designworklife]

Helen Musselwhite: Paper Art

U.K. illustrator Helen Musselwhite does some pretty spectacular paper work. Regarding her process, she writes: "Each piece combines the hand cutting, folding and scoring of a wide range of papers and card that are further worked on to create patterned and textured surfaces. They are then used to build scenes in box frames which are often complex and consist of many layers. This process means that each item of work is truly individual with no two pieces the same."
